Marina da Glória is more than just the departure point for WeBoat trips — it's the gateway to one of Rio's most charming and historically rich neighborhoods. This guide helps you make the most of your entire day, whether you arrive early or want to extend the experience after returning from sea.
About the Glória Neighborhood
Glória sits between downtown Rio and the South Zone, hugging the shore of Guanabara Bay. It's a neighborhood of contrasts: historic churches, the enormous Parque do Flamengo (Aterro do Flamengo), quiet residential streets and easy access to Botafogo, Flamengo and Centro.
The area is safe, walkable from the marina and well served by metro and bus. Tourists rarely explore it — which means less crowding, more local atmosphere and prices that don't reflect the tourist premium you'd find in Ipanema or Copacabana.
What to Do Before the Boat Trip
Check-in at Marina da Glória is typically at 1 PM. If you arrive by 12:30, you have time to:
- Have lunch nearby (see restaurant suggestions below)
- Walk along Parque do Flamengo (the waterfront path is beautiful in the morning)
- Pick up last-minute items at the convenience store next to the marina entrance
- Buy ice for the boat coolers (available at the marina kiosk)
Top Attractions Near the Marina
Parque do Flamengo (Aterro do Flamengo)
One of the largest urban parks in the world, with 1.2 million m² stretching along the bay from Glória to Botafogo. Excellent for a morning jog, picnic or just a scenic walk before boarding. Free, always open, very safe during the day.
Igreja Nossa Senhora da Glória do Outeiro
A beautiful baroque church perched on a small hill overlooking the bay. Built in 1739, it was a favorite of the Portuguese royal family. The view from the top is one of the best in the city for photos — and it's free to visit.
Museu da República (Palácio do Catete)
Walking distance from the marina, the former seat of Brazil's republican government now houses a history museum with beautiful gardens. Closed Mondays; R$10 entry.
Restaurants & Bars Near the Marina
Lamas (Since 1874)
Rio's oldest still-operating restaurant, on Rua Marquês de Abrantes in Flamengo (a 10-minute walk). Classic Brazilian chophouse. Excellent feijoada on Saturdays. Expect R$60–100 per person.
Majórica (Since 1963)
Legendary Portuguese restaurant in Flamengo, famous for its bacalhau (salt cod) dishes. A Rio institution. Expect R$80–120 per person.
Bar Urca
A bit further (Urca neighborhood, 15-min Uber), but worth mentioning: a classic boteco with views of Guanabara Bay and the Sugarloaf. Iconic. Good for post-trip drinks.
Restaurants Inside the Marina Complex
The Marina da Glória itself has a few food stalls and a restaurant open for lunch. Convenient but limited — better to eat nearby before arriving.
Parking
Marina da Glória has its own parking lot. Expect to pay R$20–35 for 5–6 hours on weekdays; slightly more on weekends. The lot fills up on busy Sundays, so arrive by 12:00 if driving.
Alternatively, park at the Parque do Flamengo open-air lots (cheaper, walking distance) or use street parking on nearby roads (free but harder to find on weekends).
Getting There by Public Transit

The two closest metro stations are Glória and Catete, both on Line 1 (Orange Line). From Glória station, it's about a 10-minute walk through the park to the marina. From Catete, slightly longer (12–15 min).
Metro is fast, safe and air-conditioned — the best option from Ipanema, Copacabana, Botafogo or downtown.
Uber / 99
Rideshares drop off directly at the Marina da Glória main entrance. From Copacabana: R$20–35. From Ipanema: R$25–40. From downtown: R$15–25.
